Legal Stuff
The important things, taken seriously.
At Mango Learn, I believe that good mentoring and tutoring begins with trust. You need to know that your child is in safe hands, that your family's information is treated with respect, and that the service you receive is professional, thoughtful and transparent.
Here is an overview of the arrangements and policies that underpin my work.
Safeguarding: your child's safety comes first
The safety and wellbeing of every young person I work with is my priority. I am committed to providing a safe, respectful and supportive environment in which young people can learn, grow in confidence and be themselves.
Before working together, I will explain how sessions operate, agree appropriate boundaries with parents or carers, and make sure everyone understands the arrangements for communication and support.
I take safeguarding concerns seriously and will follow appropriate procedures if I am concerned about a young person's safety or welfare. Where necessary, I will share relevant information with the appropriate safeguarding professionals or authorities.
Parents and carers are welcome to ask questions about my safeguarding arrangements before committing to sessions.
Professional background and checks
I bring 30 years of experience as a qualified teacher, an MSc in Psychodynamics, experience as a trained foster carer, and experience teaching and mentoring neurodivergent young people both online and face to face.
I believe it is important for parents and carers to understand the background, experience and professional checks relevant to the person working with their child.
I also maintain appropriate professional boundaries and will explain the scope of my service clearly. Mango Learn provides bespoke mentoring and tutoring; it is not a substitute for clinical therapy, medical treatment or specialist services outside my professional competence.
At our first meeting, I will provide you with the certificates of my qualifications. I am signed up to the Enhanced DBS Update Service.
Privacy and confidentiality
I understand that families may share personal information about their child's learning, needs, circumstances and experiences. I treat this information with care and respect.
Information is collected and used only for legitimate purposes connected with providing the service, communicating with families, keeping appropriate records and meeting legal or safeguarding responsibilities.
I will not routinely share personal information with other people without an appropriate reason. However, confidentiality cannot be absolute: information may need to be shared where there is a safeguarding concern, a legal obligation or another lawful basis for doing so.
I will handle personal information in accordance with applicable data protection law. My full Privacy Notice explains what information I collect, why I collect it, how I store it, how long I keep it and what rights you have.
Working together: consent and communication
Before sessions begin, I will discuss the young person's needs and goals with their parent or carer, as appropriate, and agree a clear plan for working together.
This includes:
- The purpose and format of sessions.
- Fees, payment arrangements and cancellations.
- How parents or carers will receive updates.
- How online or face-to-face sessions will be arranged.
- How concerns, questions or complaints can be raised.
I recognise the importance of the young person's own views, dignity and developing independence. I aim to work collaboratively with families while respecting appropriate confidentiality and boundaries.
For young people under 18, I will establish appropriate parental or carer consent arrangements and take account of the young person's understanding, wishes and circumstances.
Online sessions and personal information
Where sessions take place online, I will take reasonable steps to protect privacy and use suitable arrangements for communication and delivery.
Parents and carers will be given clear information about how sessions work, including any practical expectations for the young person's participation and the role of adults at home.
I ask families to help create a suitable environment for online sessions and to let me know about any access, communication or sensory needs that would help the young person participate comfortably.
Fees, cancellations and complaints
I believe families should know exactly what they are agreeing to before work begins.
Fees, what is included in each service, payment arrangements and cancellation terms will be explained in advance. Any agreed package or additional service will be set out clearly.
If you have a concern about any aspect of the service, please raise it with me directly in the first instance. I will listen carefully, take the concern seriously and aim to resolve it fairly and promptly.
Insurance and professional responsibilities
I take my responsibilities as a self-employed tutor and mentor seriously. I will maintain appropriate insurance for the services I provide and work within the limits of my qualifications, experience and competence.
Where a young person needs support beyond the scope of Mango Learn, I will be honest about that and, where appropriate, suggest that the family seek advice from a suitably qualified professional.
Questions? Please ask.
Choosing someone to work with your child is a significant decision. You should feel comfortable asking questions and taking the time you need to decide whether Mango Learn is right for your family.
If you would like to discuss safeguarding, privacy, professional background or any of the arrangements described here, please get in touch.
